In 1979, the Austin Runners Club organized a race on the roads around Decker Lake in east Austin. The Decker Challenge was born!
Today, the Decker Challenge Half Marathon is one of the longest running races in Austin. On December 9, 2018, we'll be celebrating our 40th annual event! All finishers receive a long sleeve technical fabric t-shirt, free post-race photos, post-race beer, and a highly-coveted Decker Challenge finisher's medal.
The Housing Authority of Travis County will hold its Inaugural 5K Fun Run & Walk in conjunction with the 40th Annual Decker Challenge Half Marathon on December 9, 2018.
The Housing Authority of Travis County is a government housing assistance agency directly supervised and funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). We were established in 1975, and have been providing housing assistance and supportive services to low-income families of Travis County for nearly 43 years.
Our 5K Fun Run & Walk is intended to help raise funds to empower and support all of our HATC residents – both parents and children – interested in pursuing a higher education, vocational training, and/or skill building opportunities that will eventually help them become more self-sufficient.
