Our 44th edition of Austin’s oldest 5K is coming back in person this fall! And we have some exciting changes to the event this year. First of all, we have changed the name to better reflect our race as we’re more than just a 5k now! In addition to Austin’s oldest 5k, we couldn’t be more excited about adding a competitive 10k to the fall racing calendar. Secondly, the event has been moved to October, and we are hopeful that it will give us better racing weather!
What hasn’t changed is that Daisy will still be a very family friendly event. While we did cancel the kid's mile for this year, your kids are still welcome to join us and try their hand at a 5k or 10k! After the races, we will have a finisher’s party for the whole family and an awards ceremony to celebrate your accomplishments. And even though we are moving the event from our traditional date near Mother’s Day, we will still be honoring our tradition of handing out flowers to every woman and girl that completes the 5k to show our appreciation for all of the amazing women in our community!
Today’s generation of children have a shorter life expectancy than their parents. Only 1 in 5 children receive the recommended amount of physical activity per day, leading to health problems, poor behavior, and low self-esteem.
Marathon Kids is on a mission to change that. By introducing children to running at a young age, they’re more likely to develop positive associations with physical activity, to see themselves as capable and strong, to improve their confidence, and to remain active for life! Running is more than just fun — it is a catalyst for change!
The 10K is included as the second race in the Austin Distance Challenge. If you are participating in the Distance Challenge, please sign up for the 10K option!
